چکیده

OBJECTIVE To report a case of a Segmental testicular infarction (STI) simulating a testicular tumour and to discuss the importance of the excisional frozen biopsy. METHODS We present the case of a patient with STI mimicking a testicular tumour. RESULTS The patient was treated with partial orchiectomy after excisional frozen biopsy. CONCLUSIONS The excisional frozen biopsy in testicular masses is a diagnostic maneuver to be considered in order to perform a testis-sparing surgery.

Segmental testicular infarction: conservative management is feasible and safe.

Segmental testicular infarction is a rare cause of acute scrotum. Its aetiology is not well defined and it can be clinically confused with a testicular tumour. Because the differential diagnosis between segmental testicular infarction and testicular tumour can be difficult, most authors in the past recommended surgery. Imaging plays an important role in the preoperative diagnosis, with a colour...

Segmental infarction of the testis: can frozen sections avoid orchidectomy?

Segmental infarction (SI) of the testis is a rare condition that can masquerade as a mass lesion, thus requiring exclusion of tumour. If clinical exams do not exclude a neoplastic lesion with certainty, orchidectomy is usually performed. A case of SI of the testis is presented; the use of frozen section of the enucleated mass demonstrated the ischaemic nature of the lesion, so avoiding orchidec...

Shear-Wave Elastography of Segmental Infarction of the Testis

Segmental testicular infarction (STI) is a rare cause of acute scrotum. The spectrum of findings on gray-scale and color Doppler ultrasonography differ depending on the time between the onset of testicular pain and the ultrasonography examination. We are not aware of the usefulness of shear-wave elastography for the diagnosis of STI. We report the shear-wave elastography features in a case of S...

Testicular schistosomiasis mimicking tumour.

Schistosomiasis or bilharziasis is a disease caused by Schistosoma. When infecting men the most common parasites are Schistosoma mansoni, Schistosoma japonicum and Schistosoma haematobium. The case was treated successfully by excisional biopsy and praziquantel t...
